Pointe work requires the dancer to stand with the tips of the toes fully extended while executing movement. Dancers will learn what is necessary both technically and artistically for pointe work, focusing on strength building and articulation of the feet. Pointe technique can be utilized in classical ballet, neo-classical ballet, and contemporary techniques. Jazz (Level I-V) - An exciting and ever evolving dance form full of rhythm, syncopation, passion and life. Steeped in the rhythm of jazz music, a true American art form, jazz dance brings energy and life to all those who dance it. Classes explore body isolations of the head, shoulders, ribcage, feet and arms and encourage individual expression and the development of personal style.
Contemporary (Level III-Advanced) - Contemporary dance is the exploration of the total movement potential of the body. It differs from commercial or competitive dance in that it is not bound by set standards, as well as defined styles such as ballet or Jazz dance. Instead, it seeks to express a personalized vision, often through experimentation and collaboration for the development of new, more individualized approaches to the moving body and choreographic possibilities.
Modern (Beginning-Advanced)- Modern dance is a contemporary dance form that has its roots in ballet. It emphasizes the use of the floor for centering and grounding oneself in movement. This class focuses on the breath (inhale/exhale), which brings quality to one’s movement.
Hip Hop (Beginning-Advanced) - A structured form of street dance often found in music videos, designed to teach coordination, strength, quickness, agility and endurance accompanied with popular R&B music.
Lyrical (Level I-II) - Lyrical is a fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary techniques. It emphasizes interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. The dancer is taught to interpret his or her movement with feeling, motion and style. They will learn to tell a story or create the picture of the song. This style combines the fluid beauty of ballet with the more sharp moves in jazz.
Stretch & Strengthening (Intermediate-Advanced) - This class is designed to improve a dancer's range of motion, enhance muscle flexibility and increase their level of core muscle strength. Through a variety of stretches and strengthening exercises, dancers will also increase their awareness of their own body's potential as it connects to expression through movement.
Acro - A class that focuses on teaching acrobatic skills and tricks that are useful to dancers. Dancers will build strength and flexibility while learning to safely perform acro tricks on their own and with partners.
